Health minister looks in on department stores ahead of reopen on Sunday

With Bangkok shopping malls set to reopen on Sunday (May 17), Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited Paragon and Central World on Thursday to see if Covid-19 preventive measures had been put in place in the stores.

He said shopping malls need to be well-prepared before reopening because they attract crowds, which may lead to a second-way transmission.

“Collaboration from the public may help to prevent a second outbreak,” the minister said. “The private sector must be prepared to assist with the economic recovery and adjust to the new normal.

The Department of Health was also tasked to check on malls’ water systems, their food courts as well as launch an evaluating platform called “Thais stop Covid” to boost confidence in the authorities steps to prevent infections.
